The world’s top tennis players are all together Down Under for this years Australian Open taking place from 16 to 29 January 2017.
This Grand Slam event attracts more than 700 000 tennis fans to Melbourne where temperatures average in the mid-20s, although it can get extremely hot on the courts. And sunny or not, things will certainly be heating up, with fans in for some amazing tennis action to kick off the new year.
The first Australian Open was held in 1905 and is the first of the four major Tennis Grandslams of the year. Preceding the French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open. Last year’s Mens Singles winner was Novak Djokovic in the Men’s and Angelique Kerber in the Women’s.
This year’s Final’s Men’s Singles players to bet on are:
1. Roger Federer
Having not played competitive tennis the past six months because of injury, Federer may return to the Australian Open a little rusty, however, the lack of game time would have given him a chance for some mental and physical rest. According to Federer, he has been working extremely hard so as to break back onto the tennis scene in peak physical condition. The Swiss player has won the Australian Open four times and has reached the semi-final, or higher, in 12 of the last 13 seasons.
Current Betting odds: 1/1
2. Rafael Nadal
A tennis great whose career has been plagued by injuries, Rafa will luckily be returning to the Australian Open in 2017, hoping for a second chance at the Grand Slam title. Despite playing in the contest 11 times previously, Nadal has only taken home the big prize once, in 2009. However, he’s seen somewhat of a resurgence in his tennis career, winning gold in the men’s doubles alongside tennis partner, Marc Lopez, during the 2016 Summer Olympics. He will be making his season debut at the Brisbane International which will be a great indicator of his performance to come. Nadal said there’s not much more that can be done about his wrist which prompted his recent absence from the competitive scene, stating that it will just have to adapt again to the game. However, with 14 Grand Slams under his belt, Nadal always has a real chance at overcoming previous setbacks.

Women’s Australian Open Predictions
1. Serena Williams
No list of contenders would be complete without mention of such a resounding tennis success, Serena Williams. With 22 Grand Slam titles, Williams will be looking to overtake legend, Steffi Graf, and set up the new record in the Open era. Having won the Australian Open an impressive six times – not to mention four doubles’ wins – she knows what it takes to come out on top. In any Grand Slam (or other) tennis arena. Although an injury has seen her out of competitive action since the US Open, she still managed to walk away with a Grand Slam title, reach two finals and a semi-final in 2016. So even when she’s not at the top of her game, she’s a fierce contender.
Current Betting odds: 2/9
2. Venus Williams
36 year old Venus Williams is back and it looks like she is here for good. She is the oldest woman to ever make the Australian Open Semi-Finals and hasn’t dropped a single set getting there. The hard court seems to be suiting her. Could it be a Williams sisters final?
Current Betting odds: 7/2
