Can Andy Murray win the French Open?

With the French Open Mens Singles Finals on Sunday, all eyes are on Andy Murray as he takes on Stan Wawrinka on Friday. If he wins this he will either play Djokovic or Thiem depending on how their match pans out. Currently however Djokovic is the favourite to progress to the finals.

John McEnroe seems to think that Murray stands the best chance yet of winning the French Open this year.

Why could this be the year for Murray?

  • The king of clay, Rafael Nadal’s exit has made for an interesting French Open field in Murrays favour
  • Murray hasn’t lost a match yet on clay and therefore may be confident to go all the way.
  • Should the French Open end in a Djokovic-Murray final on Sunday, he may very well have the confidence to beat the top seeded player as he did at the Italian Open, also on clay, last month.
  • Additionally Djokovic has reached the French Open semi-finals 6 times and never actually progressed to winning a French Open. This would be his first.
