Jason Day – This year’s current favourite, Jason Day who has just finished T8 at the US Open in Oakmont however bombed out on the par-5 16th hole at the Bridgestone Invitational where he carded a double-bogey 7 and was beaten by contemporary, Dustin Johnson. Will he be able to recover and pursue to win at Royal Troon?

Current Open Betting odds: 7/1

Dustin Johnson – Having just won the Bridgestone Invitational, Johnson is on fire and definitely a player to watch out for at The Open. Conversely to Day, Johnson had hit a magnificent flop shot to save par on 16 and then birdied 17. At the US Open in June, he was four shots down going into the last round of the US Open and thundered to victory by three strokes, so most certainly one to turn the tables. Johnson is definitely one for BMT and a powerful player to look out for.

Current Open Betting odds: 8/1

Jordan Spieth – Spieth was incredibly close to winning a third consecutive major at last years Open. Unfortunately the US Open 2016 wasn’t quite the same where he ended with a T-37.

Current Open Betting odds: 8/1

Rory McIlroy – The Open 2014 Champion is ready for a comeback after missing last year’s tournament due to injury. Everyone’s favourite Irish lad (although at times controversial) has performed well in 2016 by claiming the Irish Open trophy, however he faltered at the US Masters and finished T10. Can he raise the Claret Jug again this year?

Current Open Betting odds: 9/1

Adam Scott – Scott has seen 5 top tens including four in a row at The Open and is therefore a consistent contender. Sadly four straight bogeys on the back nine in back-to-back years cost him the title in 2012 and 2013. He will be ready and itching to win the title this year.

Current Open Betting odds: 20/1

Louis Oosthuizen – Last year’s Runner-up, Louis is one of the few players that can boast two top two’s in The Open event. He was 2010’s winner and 2015’s runner up making him an experienced player. The only downside however was that both of these finishes were at St Andrews as opposed to Royal Troon being played this year. Here’s holding out hope for the South African boytjie.

Current Open Betting odds: 40/1
