The 88th Academy Awards, known as The Oscars will have betting fans in a frenzy on Sunday night as all eyes are glued to the screen for this years winners announcements.
We have a look at some of the betting odds and predict our Oscar winners this year:
1. Best Motion Picture
The Revnant – Starring Leonardo DiCaprio has already been awarded at the Golden Globes and BAFTA’s. It’s an extraordinary feat of filmmaking and most pundits are betting on this one to win. Current betting odds of 9/20
Spotlight – Many Hollywood experts have this pinned as the number 2 choice but it may give The Revnant a run for its money. Current betting odds of 5/2
The Martian – with betting odds of 150/1. Interestingly this surprise film won at the Golden Globes for best comedy film. Could this quirky Matt Damon film stand a chance? If you bet just R50 on this movie to win, you could win R3000. Pretty rewarding betting odds.

2. Best Actor
Leonardo DiCaprio – Currently earmarked as the winner, as he has won the Golden Globes, BAFTA’s and the Critics Choice award for his role in The Revnant. Could this finally be DiCaprio’s year? Current betting odds of 1/100
Eddie Redmayne – for his role in The Danish Girl, Redmayne could be a serious contender for this year’s Oscar. His current betting odds stand at 20/1.
Bryan Cranston – The film Trumbo was very popular at the SAG Awards and has a number of nominations to its name. Since actors make up most of the Academy voting branch, they may just want to vote for this actor due to the popularity of the film, which is not in the Best Motion Picture category. Current betting odds are at 80/1, which means a R100 bet could win you R8000.

Michael Fassbender – Steve Jobs, with betting odds of 25/1
Matt Damon – The Martian, with betting odds of 100/1
3. Best Actress
Brie Larson – this years favorite for her role in Room. Larson has a phenomenal chance of winning this year, and the betting odds of 1/25 show this.
Saoirse Ronan – Ronan has been a runner up all season and is a strong contender for this years Oscar trophy for her role in Brooklyn. Current betting odds of 12/1
Cate Blanchett – an incredibly strong actress and highly popular with the Academy. Her role in Carol is a longshot for the trophy, but you just never know. Her current betting odds are 33/1, which means a R100 could win you R3300.

4. Best Director
Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu – The Revnant. Should he win this year, it will make history as he will become the first person in 65 years to win a back-to-back Oscar (Last year he won for The Birdman) and only the third ever. Is the Academy ready for such a feat? The betting odds currently stand at 1/10
George Miller – Mad Max Fury Road. Miller is second in line to win the coveted Oscar statue with current betting odds of 13/2. He won a number of critics awards for this movie and there is a chance his legacy with be honoured with a Directors Trophy this year.
Tom McCarthy – Spotlight. If Spotlight loses in the Best Picture category, keep an eye on this Director to win, as a consolation prize of sorts. Current betting odds of 20/1. This means that with a R100 stake, you could win R2000.

Adam McKay – The Big Short with betting odds of 16/1
Lenny Abrahamson – Room with betting odds of 100/1
